From Cognitive Offloading to Cognitive Overloading

Not long ago, I shared here that I had abandoned almost all of my use of LLMs—which had been extensive—after realizing that I was effectively detraining my cognitive abilities. This realization of how important it is to exercise the mind in order to keep it sharp and functional led me to think of the inverse concept to cognitive offloading:

What if, instead of delegating cognitive tasks to digital-computational shortcuts, I do exactly the opposite and go back to performing all these tasks in the most laborious and mentally demanding way possible?

Writing by hand, doing calculations mentally, consulting physical libraries, dusting off the encyclopedia and the dictionary…

It is very likely that, a few years from now, the vast majority of people will be exceptionally skilled at prompting AI but, consequently, exceptionally incapable of using their own cognitive processes. In such an intellectual market, I would rather be part of the tiny percentage of people still able to offer critical and autonomous thinking.

A truly lovely piece averring personal most commonly right brained mental effort, insight and transcendence in a collapsing, totally fictive nether world of sales persons’ and consumers’ Adult-otherless, relationshipsless, civil-societyless (“bravo” Margaret-sociopath Thatcher), living-environmentless, Quantum-nextness (‘-less’) FUTURESLESS junkfo & junkfo (‘GIGO,’ historically say 1995) word & image machines (“devices”).
